Uni_graduateAUSTRALIA welcomes tens of thousands students from nearly 90 world countries who come to  Australia every year to get their education (click here to view current statistics).

The Australian Universities and other educational establishments provide world class studying facilities for overseas students and exceptionally high level of education in all fields and areas.

Studying in Australia is undoubtedly a very efficient pathway to the Permanent Residence. The current statistics clearly indicates that the bulk of international students who recently graduated from Australian Unis have already obtained or in the process of applying for Australian Permanent Residence. In other words, studying in Australia gives international students a perfect chance to achieve concurrently two major goals (or `kill two birds with one stone`): obtain both a world class education and solid migration status leading eventually to Australian citizenship.

Australian MBAs, Bachelor Degrees and Diplomas are recognized worldwide and can boost considerably the graduate`s chances to secure a top employment in any country.

As the Australian Government strives to encourage the influx of overseas students the Australian immigration law provides for the flexible and efficient structure of student visas allowing overseas students to obtain visas, study and work in Australia (within the limits permitted by law) with minimum hassle, if any at all.

Skilled – Independent (Residence) visa (subclass 885)

A permanent visa for eligible overseas students who have obtained an Australian qualification in Australia as a result of at least two (2) years study and for holders of certain temporary visas with skills in demand in Australia. Applicants are not sponsored and must pass a points test.

International students who are unable to meet the new requirements for a permanent skilled visa have an opportunity now to apply for a newly introduced 18 month Skilled-Graduate (subclass 485) to build on their skills and work experience. This visa has unrestricted work rights.

The purpose of these visas is to encourage overseas students to apply for permanent residency after they have completed their course studies in Australia.

These visas use a points test to select visa applicants with characteristics needed in the Australian labour market. You will need to meet the applicable passmark for a visa to be granted.

Applicants for this visa do not require sponsorship.

This visa is for you if you are an overseas student who:

  • is under 45 years of age

  • has completed an eligible qualification(s) as a result of at least two (2) years full-time study in Australia

  • has the skills and qualifications that meet the Australian standard for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and their nominated occupation is classified as either:

    • a 60 point occupation
      or

    • a 50 point occupation if the overseas student has completed a PhD in Australia.

The SOL is a list of skilled occupations that are in need in Australia. Each occupation listed on the SOL is allocated a points value for use in the visa assessment process.
See:
Form 1121i Skilled Occupation List (SOL), Sydney and Selected Areas Skill Shortage List (SSASSL), and Employer Nomination Scheme Occupation List (ENSOL) (132KB PDF file)

This visa has a points test and there are other requirements that must be met.

Benefits of getting education in AUSTRALIA

Australia offers unbeatable and exceptional benefits to overseas students:

1. Australia is currently ranked the second best country in the world in terms of Quality of Life Index 2007).

2. Australian education is highly reputable and recognized worldwide. The Australian educational standards are equal (if not higher in some areas) to those in Europe and US.

3. The costs of living and studying (tuition fees) in Australia are significantly lower than in US, not to mention Europe. Due to the favorable exchange rate of the Australian dollar to US dollar and Euro, Australia offers a real value for money to overseas students. In other words, you can get a world class education at a much lesser price.

For instance, a standard Bachelor Degree course (tuition fees + living expenses) offered equally (in terms of level of education) by a UK and Australian University will surely cost you at least a double price (!) in Great Britain compared to Australia.

4. The Australian Degree (Diploma) can significantly enhance you prospects of getting top jobs after graduation.

The graduates from Australian Universities will be warmly welcomed by employers from most of world countries, primarily in all English-speaking countries (US, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, etc).

Alternatively, an Australian Uni graduate will have minimum hassle of getting employed in his/her home country or..... in Australia, should he/she decides to settle down in Australia after graduation.

 5. Important! The current Australian immigration law permits overseas students to apply for the Australian Permanent Residence (PR) after graduation and, subsequently, for the Australian Citizenship (subject to the eligibility criteria).

Upon grant of PR students can reside in Australia permanently and enjoy fully all their rights under protection of the Australian law in terms of employment, business, taxation, civil activities, social security, etc.

Not every world top country offers such a great opportunity!

6. Overseas students are permitted to work legally in Australia during their studies. The current law allows 20 hours of full-time during the semester/term and unlimited full-time work during the holiday period. The permission to work is granted by the Department of Immigration (DIAC) and is linked to the valid student`s visa. Students can apply for permission to work at the Department of Immigration (DIAC) only after they actually commenced their course of study.

7. In addition to the world class infrastructure and high living standards Australia offers excellent climatic conditions. There are no such things as cold winters, biting frosts, icy roads, snowstorms, blizzards, etc in Australia. It just goes from the moderate climatic zone (for example, +8+10°C in Tasmania - the coldest temperature) to the tropical paradise in Cairns where the temperatures ranging between +25°C +30°C  are normal all year round. Most time of the year it is just warm in all Australia.

Australia is known as `DOWN UNDER` where the seasons are totally opposite to the Northern hemisphere countries. For instance, June, July and August are winter months in Australia (`winter` is meant here in the Australian notion of word!). But you can have a steaming hot +35°C weather in January in Australia whereas it is well below zero in most European countries.

8. Australia is one of the most multicultural countries on Earth. Nearly 100 ethnical communities enjoy currently living in Australia. Australia encourages people to maintain their original culture, whilst also taking on an Australian identity.  Students can enjoy a multi-cultural environment and celebrate cultural diversity. As Australia is an English-speaking country students can perfect their English skills both in class and after the studies, in their daily routine.

9. Australia is one of the safest countries in the world in terms of personal  safety, property security  and crime prevention.

10. Australia is one of the environmentally cleanest countries on Earth
